The 24 Hour Web Project
The 24 Hour Web Project was conceived at SmallBox, inspired by a similar event happening halfway across the world at Full Code Press. The idea for this project is simple:
1. Find a local nonprofit (or two)
2. Gather a team of designers and developers
3. Design and build a useful web site for said nonprofit in 24-hours flat
4. Raise community awareness, and maybe
5. Get them some donations in the process.
The team gets to revel in losing sleep while helping out for a good cause; the nonprofit gets to benefit from their brand new website and increased awareness. Win-win, all around.
How do we do it, you ask?
How do we condense our website process into a mere 24 hours? Team SmallBox thrives on this challenge.
Some of our secrets include:
We drop everything else, and really, REALLY focus on only this one thing for the day.
We don't sleep. Ok, we nap a little.
Each team member gets "optimized" with their personal choice of caffeine.
For good measure, we add a healthy dose of laughter and dancing.
We go a little crazy around 3am.
Why don't we do it more often?
This isn't something we could pull off often if we wanted to maintain balance for our other clients and our personal lives. At the end, we crash and need some serious recuperation time.
But we know it's worth it. Because at the end of the day, there's an amazing nonprofit that has a powerful new tool to do good work in our community and our team has stretched and grown, finding new ways to collaborate and just git'er done!
And then we sleep for a long time!
