Small Gift Box Greetings from Inside the Box! While the bulls fought with the bears, March came in like a lion and looks to be heading out like a lamb. We can't do much about all these animals. But what we can do is deliver the Internet for our clients, every day and all the time. The Small Box lab continues to grow with new staff and is pretty much in operation 20 hours a day (19 if you count Daylight Savings). Take a look at the latest blogs and sites to spring across the Internet from our box to yours.
Meet Lydia!
Small Box staff grows with the addition of Lydia Whitehead

Lydia Whitehead

We are all really excited to announce that Lydia Whitehead has joined our staff as our resident "Jill-of-all-
trades." Lydia can do the heavy lifting on almost any aspect of a website's development: from design to programming and project management. Lydia is an Indiana native and graduate of Ball State, so we're proud to have done our part to ebb the tide of the much ballyhoo'ed Indiana brain drain.

What It Looks Like When You Own Page One on Google

How a multi-faceted Internet marketing strategy helped Sonicu dominate Google

Google Page OneSonicu knew from the start that they wanted to rank well for the keywords 'nicu sound monitoring.' Small Box helped lay the foundation for this with smart web design. We applied our proprietary nine-step process to optimize Sonicu.net for search engines and (at the time this newsletter went to press) put the homepage at #1. We integrated the site with Compendium Blogware which allowed Sonicu to snatch the #2 and #3 rankings through blogging. The #5, #6 and #9 rankings were obtained through social bookmarking. Podcasts of an audio interview with Sonicu founder, Chris Smith, secured the #7 and #10 rankings. Lastly, Chris Smith participated in an email interview with a niche industry blog, NICU101.com, to get the #8 ranking.

This is an excellent case study of how a broadbased, 360 degree approach to Internet marketing can achieve dramatic results with Google. By promoting the company and website through multiple new media chanels (blogging, podcasting and social bookmarking), Sonicu owns virtually the entire page. We're proud to have played a role in securing this valuable search engine real estate, but we have to share the credit with Sonicu and Compendium who wrote the blogs and conducted the interviews that have helped bury the competition.

Demonstration of the Web's power to shape policy

Save Whiting Web SiteA MediaSauce project in partnership with Bose Public Affairs Group. MediaSauce's Mike Rendel came up with the novel approach and design and we developed the site in just a few days as part of the effort to save the historic town. This site was part of a successful effort in ammeding the proposed tax legislature, HB 1001, to accommodate northwest Indiana cities that would have been effectively put out of business without the exceptions that were eventually included in the law.
