24 Hour Web Project Applications are Open!

June 02, 2014

I can’t believe it’s that time of year again — time to gear up for another 24 Hour Web Project! We're officially opening applications today (go here to apply) and they'll be due by June 27, 2014 at 5pm EST.

The team has been working hard to prepare to stay up for 24 hours straight and deliver a great website to a nonprofit in need. Which is to say we’ve been practicing for the next round of plank challenges and other methods of keeping awake.

This year, we’ll once again be taking 24 hours (that’ll be noon on the first day to noon the next, for those counting) to craft a new website, complete with video and marketing support for an Indianapolis nonprofit organization. It will be our sixth year and seventh website created. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and see what has been produced in our yearly all-nighters:

Year One: Second Helpings
Year Two: Madame Walker Theatre
Year Three (look ma, we did two!): Earth House & INDYCOG
Year Four: ICAN
Year Five: Partners in Housing

I asked the team what they look forward to each year and what is most rewarding, and they summed it up pretty well:

"The most rewarding part of 24HWP is the blending of the two teams into one Voltron-like, super-robot of web design awesomeness!"
Jason Ward

"I love the funny moments that come in the wee hours. Inevitably, someone gets loopy. We've had puppies pouncing. 2 a.m. dance interludes. And who can forget goatee baby. I can't even describe it. You just have to understand that sleep deprivation leads to absurdity, which can be quite a wonderful thing. Also there's a moment when we start to see the work come together. There's joy and celebration, and sometimes even happy tears, which all completely overshadow any sleep weariness. It's pretty cool to behold."
Sara McGuyer

"I love the bonding that happens between our team and with the project team. Nothing like throwing everyone into a pressure cooker for 24 hours."
Jeb Banner

"I love that we give really awesome organizations a useful tool to spread their stories and causes!"
Teresa Tatum

"My favorite part and the most rewarding part is getting to give something freely to those who can benefit from what we do. Everyone knows the old adage 'It's better to give than to receive' and that rings very true in the context of this project. It feels great to take a team who needs our services and to be able to give them as much as we can while having a whole lot of fun and a little bit of stress!"
Neil Kjeldsen

"1. The rush / sprint to the end! 2. Seeing the client become more engaged with their online experience. 3. Seeing what's gonna happen come 3am!"
Leigh Marino

"It brings the team together in a way that's different from our normal work day, and because of that there's usually something fun or wacky happening to help de-stress. Like impromptu 7-minute workouts or heated banter over fantasy football trades."
Nick Klooz

We’re looking for Indy nonprofits who need to add a little oomph to their mission and marketing with a new website and marketing plan and can hang with us for 24 hours straight. Know an organization that fits the bill? Maybe it's you? Get to applying! (Applications are due by June 27, 2014 at 5pm EST).
