Geeking Out With Kasey Bradley

October 19, 2012

I'm still kind of new here so I'm going to air my dirty laundry upfront to keep any scandals from popping up in the future.

I am a geek.

Culturally, that isn't really a big issue anymore. Almost everyone geeks out about something, but only a few own up to it. I think it is time for that to change.

SmallBox is a cool company filled with really cool people - but even these titans of internet marketing have something to geek out about. That is why I am beginning a series of blog posts about what makes us geek out, and I am beginning with myself. Full-disclosure.

Kasey and his Ginormous phone!

Unlike most SmallBoxers, I use a Samsung Galaxy S3 in lieu of an iPhone. Previously, I had used an iPhone 3GS for over two years and had very few issues with it. Generally, I love Apple products - they are stable, reliable, sleek little workhorses - but I am 100% happy with this decision. There are a number of reasons why I chose this path, but one stands out to me as being a little more important than the others…

Just look at it. It is huge. I have a big head and the thing still looks like I'm holding a paperback next to my face. This is an immediate deal breaker for a lot of people, but I have had no issues with the phone's size. The screen is enormous and bright and has amazing image quality. I also don't get hand cramps when I go on a two-hour Evernote spree - and that happens a lot.

Another thing worth noting, though this isn't as important, is the quality of the integration with Google Apps. I use Google Docs, Drive, and Music all of the time, and my switch to an Android device has made using these apps on-the-go a much easier, more reliable, and overall more pleasant experience.

I will admit that there are issues with Android devices. Moving from Apple's App Store to Google's Play Store has been a little jarring (there just isn't enough stuff), and Apple's iPhone voicemail system is much better developed than Android's, but I'm sure that could improve in the future.

Assuming there's not another lawsuit or something.
