If you stop by SmallBox in the next 48 hours, don't be surprised if it smells like Christmas. That's because we get straight-up giddy this time of year when we're able to participate in our annual 24 Hour Web Project! It feels like Christmas morning and we get to simultaneously unwrap and give a website to a great nonprofit organization.
This year we've teamed up with Partners in Housing to build a website in 24-hours. Partners in Housing is an Indy organization that provides affordable housing to the homeless and low-income folks in our community. As you can probably imagine, Partners in Housing has seen so many redemption stories pass through their doors as they've provided stability to people who need a chance for self-sufficiency. But they haven't been able to adequately tell those stories online up until now. A major push in this year's 24HWP will be to build them a platform to tell inspiring stories of their residents, donors and staff members who've impacted the organization and community.
We did do some prep work to gear up for this year's event. We want to spend as much time designing and developing during the event as possible – and also to provide enough direction that the nonprofit can prep their content ahead of time. So far we've spent time interviewing folks on camera for video stories and built a new sitemap and content outline. We'll be in full-on collaboration mode with members of Partners in Housing's awesome team for a full 24-hour period, starting on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 12:00 p.m. sharp.
Personally, last year's 24HWP was almost a religious experience for me. It's the one event I most look forward to during the year. I love knowing that we're working together to give this wonderful organization and community something they can be proud of; something that can help give people new hope and stability in their lives. It's cool to be a part of it.
