New Hire: Design Intern Sarah Herbert

January 17, 2013

We're so excited to have Sarah join us as she'll give our design team some much needed support and backup. Sarah hails from Greensburg, Ind., and is currently a junior in Herron's Visual Communications program. She wowed us with her design process and general creativity in concepting, researching, and designing. We can't wait to put those skills to serious use over the next few months. Oh and she's an awesome painter to boot. Say hello to Sarah in the comments!

What bands do you listen to?
I grew up on country music and find myself listening to groups such as the Band Perry and the Zac Brown Band. However, my music tends to be seasonal, and I’ve found myself listening to the Lumineers and Mumford and Sons lately.

What is your favorite place in Indianapolis?
Union Station in downtown Indy is probably one of my favorite places. I’m a huge fan of historic buildings, and the old station is definitely a work of art!

What is your favorite typeface?
Comic Sans?!...Just kidding! I find myself using Helvetica frequently when designing, but Syntax has really started to catch my eye lately. When it comes to serif fonts, I tend to gravitate toward Garamond or Bembo.

What is your favorite Photoshop or Illustrator tool?
In Photoshop, I’ve been impressed with the magnificent clone tool when it comes to manipulating photographs. In Illustrator, it would have to be a tie between the pen and align tools. The pen makes most of the work possible, but the align tool is always there to finesse the rest!

What do you do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I like to paint, try new foods, go fishing, watch ballgames, volunteer, or simply spend time with family and friends.

Write the first thing that comes to mind when reading each word.

Helvetica: golden child
bicycle: flat tire
design: life consuming
cat videos: No.
drop shadows: risky
underwater basketweaving: better have a set of lungs

Anything else you want folks to know about you?
I am a meteorologist at heart (I have a slight obsession with knowing what the weather is going to do)!
