Sara McGuyer

Marketing Strategist

ideator, crafter of plans, aspiring storyteller

SmallBoxer since: November 2010

Favorite thing about working at SmallBox? Working with such a bright and creative team. And our culture. It's tough to beat having a turntable in the break room, Beer Fridays and working for a company that does things like 24 Hour Web Project and Factory Week.

What do you geek out on? Other people being creative, piles of research data, food, music... I geek out a lot.

What would you do if you weren't working at SmallBox? I'd probably be freelancing. Or a perpetual student.

When you're not SmallBoxing, you're most likely: watching movies, walking my dogs or cooking something with Louie that is way more involved than my tiny SoBro kitchen is meant to handle.

How do you get involved in your community? Marketing director and board member for the Indianapolis International Film Festival

I believe in: you.

What's the best piece of advice you've ever gotten? Be open to wonder and discovery.

Favorite band: Depends on the minute, but frequently sited desert island bands are Queen, Pixies & Talking Heads.

Favorite place in Broad Ripple: The Monon Trail, by bike of course.

Longest you can go without internet: A few days is a perfect break. After that, the twitches set in.

What is the meaning of life? If I could answer that you'd probably be sending me money through an infomercial.

What's your ninja superpower? Making up words. That isn't very ninja, is it? Where do I go to get more ninja?

What's your proudest achievement? Surviving a 3-day, two night backcountry hike in the Rocky Mountains. I discovered new levels of hardcore I didn't know I had.

Favorite internet meme: The knitter in me must go with Handmade Ryan Gosling

Favorite cat video: I'm more of a puppy video kind of girl.

Favorite movie: When I'm feeling serious, I'd say Dreams. I love anything by Christopher Guest and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Google/Apple/Facebook/Amazon — which one do you like the most and why? Between those - Apple, hands down. But truthfully, I'd rather talk about something else.

Google just announced their Knowledge Graph. Not really a surprise since it seems like they were headed that way for a while now...
I think a lot of kids growing up in the 90s were inspired by videogames...
