Second Helpings

Second Helpings, Inc. accepts donated perishable and overstocked food to prepare nutritious meals for thousands of hungry children and adults every day throughout Greater Indianapolis.

I don't hesitate to recommend SmallBox to anyone.

— Nora Spitznogle, Director of Operation

Challenge

Before redesign, the Second Helpings website was outdated and not reflective of the amazing organization they are. The site was not generating donations and was not clearly communicating the value the organization brings to the Indianapolis community.

Solution

SmallBox was inspired by an international program that offered to do something we initially thought impossible: build a website in one 24-hour stretch. With a dedicated crew of hard working SmallBoxers we dragged our sleeping bags into the conference room and set to work. Ben Shine gathered up the photos and technical information. Nora Spitznogle bought the snacks. Lydia Whitehead set up the 24 Hour Web Project website and started going over the assets we had. Jack Shepler developed the site. The rest of the team helped handle content, project manage and keep tasks on track and on time.

Twenty four hours later we were done. It was incredible.

Results

Second Helpings began receiving kudos immediately after launch. Their donations increased, as did their community awareness via the web. Several times we have heard from non-profits that they see the Second Helpings site as a model. Within a few months, SmallBox received more business from the leading non-profits in Central Indiana.
